I'm concerned about the fundamental assumption that time spent reading = attention = value.

That's a problem.

There plenty of long posts that take a long time to get through, but are ultimately poorly written diatribes. Conversely, there is no shortage of short posts with tons of insight that require little time to get through; in fact most great blog posts follow this rule.

I am all for thinking up new ways of ranking information to unseat linking and voting, but time spent reading just doesn't fit the bill.

@ lyndon. My sentiments exactly, well kick-ass UK startups at least. I love what blogstorm.co.uk did to create a stir and is still firing ahead now. I will blog about this service on oscandy.com. If you like the service or its potential then this section on the site has logos to put on your site:

We should all assist to support it :)

Sounds interesting, I definitely want to test drive it. You can only get so much from a write up, you have to take it for a spin.

I honestly believe that something will come along in the future and kick digg to the kerb. Let's hope it's a British site that does it, ;)

Nice article but I do not agree with your headline. Why does everyone have to put headlines like.. is blah blah the iPod killer? or digg killer?
Let us see how this site grows and what more features it will add over time but please don't try to sensationalise by creating headlines that are utter rubbish!
